Moonwalk London 2014

I am very excited to announce that on the night of 10 May 2014 my Mum and I will be putting on our specially decorated bra's and walking a marthon around London in aid of Breast Cancer charity Walk the Walk. They are an absolutely amazing charity, and what a night the Moonwalk is. I took part back in 2010 whilst suffering from my second bout of tonsilitus in a month!

I'm (weirdly) looking forward to starting the training, but first I need a new pair of trainers (the last pair I bought were for the last Moonwalk.. I clearly exercise a lot!) and a pedometer!

The Bra in all its glory - I was working at a Nursery at the time and a whole group of us did the walk together, we decorated our bras with Bees, Caterpillars and Ladybirds as they were the names of the rooms!

 

I did not cheat but a nice man let me have a sit on this while we waited for the other half of the group to catch up!

 

Definitely a worth while charity so if you fancy a big walk to help them raise some much needed money please head over to their site now.... GO!!!

Saving Mr Banks

Recently a friend told me about a website called Show Film First where you get offered free cinema and theatre tickets, generally for previews. Through this website I got 2 tickets to a preview of Saving Mr Banks which is the story of how Walt Disney convinced P. L. Travers (or Mrs Travers as you will find out in the film!) the author to let him make Mary Poppins in to the film we all know and love. I was pretty excited to see this as Mary Poppins has been one of my favourite films since I was tiny, I used to watch it on a daily basis and act it out with props including a tape measure and obviously my height is ‘Practically Perfect In Every Way’.

 

Anyway, Mum and I arrived at the cinema and were asked to turn our phones off as this was the first time the film was being aired. We thought it was just your average preview screening but as we walked into the screen was saw Tom Hanks (Walt Disney) being interview by Alex Zane on a cherry tree lined red carpet in Leicester Square… then we realised that we were watching the premier, so seeing the film at the same time as Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. I thought that was pretty cool!

 

 

The film was great, if you love Mary Poppins, Disney or a good musical its definitely one to watch. The story starts with Mrs Travers travelling to LA to tell Walt Disney NO YOU ARE NOT MAKING MY LOVELY BOOK IN TO A HAPPY ANIMATION. At this point you wonder how the film ended up how it did. As the film goes on you find out about how P. L. Travers wrote the book and how many aspects of her life seeped in to the characters… Mr Banks being loosely based on her own Father.

A lot of the film takes place with the script writer (Don DaGardi) and the song writers (The Sherman Brothers) putting ideas to Mrs Travers about how they see the film. She of course hates all their ideas until the suggest a change in the ending of the book and perform ‘Lets Go Fly a Kite’.

It’s a really interesting film. I always wonder how books go from paper to screen and this gives a great insight. It’s also lovely to see how one of my all time favourite films came to exist how I know it. Its very hard not to sing along.. especially when they are sharing ideas and you know what the next word should be and you just want to shout it out!

I must say I haven’t read the book of Mary Poppins (shock horror!!!) so it is going on my list of books to read!

If you are a Mary Poppins/Disney/Tom Hanks fan then you should see this film!

How I Live Now - Meg Rosoff

 

A while ago I saw an advert for a new film that I fancied seeing – How I Live Now. After googling I discovered that it was actually a book first. I am always one for reading the books before I see the film. So I ordered a second hand copy of the book from play.com – I do have a kindle, but if I can get a cheaper second hand book then I always will.

I was excited to read this book as from what I had seen from the film advert the story seemed really interesting. It’s actually a teenage fiction book, but never too old!

The story is about 16 year old New Yorker Daisy who is sent to England to live with her Aunt Penn and four cousins on a farm in the middle of nowhere in England. Whilst there a war breaks out, a long with a slightly odd relationship with her cousin Edmund. Because of the war the cousins end up being split up. The book continues with Daisy and her cousin Piper trying to get back to the rest of the family. I don’t like to spoil books for people by writing what actually happens so I will leave it at that.

I did enjoy the book, the style of writing took a little while to get used to and I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending, however I never really am.

Unfortunately I was a bit slow with getting to actually read the book so I am pretty sure I have missed it at the cinema so you will have to wait for my views on the film until I can get hold of the DVD.

I’ve got a few things planned to write about soon… a preview screening of ‘Saving Mr Banks’ that I went too, the Halloween performance I recently took part in.. and if all goes to plan I hope to carve some pumpkins this week so there should be some pictures coming up soon! Also I’m going to see ‘The Nutcracker in a couple of weeks time, performed by the Moscow City Ballet – I’m sitting in a box how fancy – and I am currently reading ‘On The Beach’ by Nevil Shute, so when I finish this (although I feel it may take a while) I will do a little write up on that.

I’ve been busy with a drama performance and ballet recently so I’m really going to try and get in to the swing of this blogging business in the run up to Christmas, as there are so many things to blog about then!

Meet Buddy...

Meet my little kitten Buddy!

He's really not very little anymore, he's actually massive, with a giant tail that's like a lemurs.

 

Buddy was my Christmas present from Sam last year. He somehow managed to hide a big Santa's sack full of kitten related items from me. Sam gave me all the presents and then told me to choose a kitten.

 

I found him online and contacted his owner and went to meet him. The lady had 2 kittens, both were so cute but Buddy was the bossy one and decided he wanted to come home with us.

 

He was so small and fluffy... but very noisy! He still is. When we first got him he was smaller than Sam's shoes!

 



 

We picked him up on 29th December and spent New Years Eve on the sofa with Baby Buddy asleep between us!

 

Now Buddy is nearly 1!

 

He is a huge cat now, he's still very cuddly. In the mornings he herds me towards the sofa and pounces on me for a cuddle. He won't sit on your lap, he has to lie up your tummy with his little paws around your neck. He's very noisy and still very playful... but not with his toys. He likes to play with screwed up paper and straws (he will literally pull them out your drink!). At the moment he is an indoor cat. I'm wary of letting him outside. He likes to pose for photos and watch out the window when we go out and come back home. He also likes to terrorise the fish in the tank by hitting the glass.

 

I expect I will do many more posts about Buddy, he's just so pretty I can't help taking photos of him!
